If a file is removed, its metadata are deleted. There is no way to know that
a new file is the same than other deleted previously (and rely on the file
name would be erroneous in a lot of cases). However, the tags remain when
you overwrite the file.

When a file changes on the filesystem, the miner remove the existing
metadata *retrieved from the file* but keep the metadata set by the user
(like tags) before inserting the new extracted data.

We are doing our best to keep your data safe between upgrades. Try to stick
to stable versions and use regular backups... just in case :)
