Scott: I finally managed to wire up a couple of OT2's (a proto C and an OT2m)with displays to make comparison with the TT4 and KPC-3 as to efficiency in decoding. Having a simple display is really handy and while I have not done exhausive tests yet, it looks like the TT4 performs slightly better when used with a simple HT hook-up. I have yet to try it using a radio with dedicated port.
However a few things came to mind as I was doing the testing. 1. The 4x40 display is a little large for some installations (i.e. vehicle) and there are a lot of 2x16 displays out there. Call, distance and bearing might by sufficient in some cases, but unfortunately the last few digits of the distance and bearing get choppled off on the 2x16 display. Is is possible to reformat without affecting the 4x 40 display? 2. LCD displays distance in miles. Any way of having a metric option? 3. LCD seems to decode all stations coming in regardless of the OT2 MAXRANGE setting. Can a MAXRANGE filter be switched in for the LCD? Graham VE6GW
