Yes, you can. The 6-pin mini din DATA connector on amateur equipment is a standard among the Yaesu, ICOM, and Kenwood equipment. As a matter of fact, the pin out on your V71A is the same as my old Kenwood TM-732 as well as a Yaesu FT-1500 and the IC-2720.
