I would like to add to the discussion ( and maybe confusion ) about powering
the NUVI 350. I do both power and data with just one cable through the SIDE
connector and no modification to the NUVI itself.

I bought the Garmin cable from Scott ( not a GTRANs ), hooked up a serial DB9
connector ( he sells them with DB9 already on too ).

There is a molded on Garmin bump a few inches down from the mini plug that goes
in the NUVI . I sliced open the wire above and below molded bump and found a
red wire that I jumpered around the bump ( this is for power ). Since it was
suggested that the OT2M might not have enough current from the internal
regulator if the NUVI is charging the internal battery, I added an LM 7805
voltage regulator inside the NUVI case and it fits and screw right in to the
existing circuit board screw to the front right of OT2M. I wired the power from
12 volt into the OT2M into the LM 7805 then took the 5 volt power out from that
to the NUVI 350 power wire - the red one that was jumpered.

The NUVI now just has the one side connector and provides both the power and
data. There is one bug to this with a minor fix that works for me. The NUVI
does not first show FMI serial mode after the initial turn on. I simply unplug
either the serial or radio port from the OT2M for a second and plug it back in
and then the NUVI will go into FMI mode.

So yeah , this was all discussed back in previous discussions and that is where
I learned how to do this and anyone should look up those and read up if they
want to try doing it to make sure I described this process from memory
correctly and to find the correct pinouts for DB9 and power, etc.

It isn't that hard a mod and not anything at all done inside the NUVI.

Hope this helps with some more confusion or otherwise !
