Compiling tramp (CVS version) under Gnus Emacs (CVS version) I get warnings saying that the varibale directory-sep-char is obsolete since Emacs 21.1. The comment string of this variable says:
This variable is obsolete since 21.1; do not use it. Directory separator character for built-in functions that return file names. The value is always ?/. Don't use this variable, just use `/'.
