Anne,

I agree that having multiple versions/layouts for the U277 will make
providers revolt.  The regulation gives them all an out, since they may
require that a "mutually agreeable" format be used, and dictate back to the
Payer, who may then need to support as many formats as they have providers!

Cynthia/Joe,
    Just food for thought....The New Jersey HINT law actually places
further burden upon the providers & their vendors.  Since they  legislated
the "standard" and not an individual implementation guide, the providers
will have to accept proprietary versions of the Standard, at a time when
they are struggling to meet the HIPAA requirements.
    It could be overwhelming if doing business in multiple states and
payers adopt another "version" of the 277 to meet business needs, etc.
    Ideally, it would be nice for everyone to have one implementation guide
to adhere to.
