It looks like what you mentioned is still an issue, but 2.96 is a broken
compiler.  You are probably going to run into a lot more problems if you
try to continue using it.  It was never officially released by GCC. 
Redhat took a beta version of the compiler and with some minor changes,
made it their default compiler.  It does not help that you are running
Red Hat 7.1.  That is an over 5 year old distro.
