For those of you using CVS HEAD, the next time you do a "cvs update"
you'll see nearly every file updated; this is because I've gone through and
replaced all non-ASCII characters with their ASCII equivalents (in
particular the O-umlaut in "Thomas \xD6streich", found in comments in most
source files, is now an Oe).  Will Unicode eventually make it as a
worldwide text encoding standard?  Only time will tell...
