Hi, I have created a project to enable translation of java properties using GNU gettext pot and po files. See http://github.com/tschulte/gradle-gettext-plugin.
It is not really ready for production yet, but we use it (with a few additions) for translating our application. It is only a wrapper around prop2po, msgmerge and po2prop, but allows automating these tasks. The workflow is as follows: - initially import already translated properties files (this is the only time this happens, later the template.properties file and the _lang.po files are the only files that are edited by anyone, the _lang.properties and .pot files are generated then) - for each template.properties call prop2po with some parameters => template.pot - for each template.pot X template_lang.po call msgmerge => updated template_lang.po - translate the po files, e.g. using pootle or Virtaal - after translation: for each template_lang.po call po2prop with some parameters => template_lang.properties contains the translations. The big advantage of the above process: It does not depend on pootle or any other tool. Changed strings in the template.properties result in correct fuzzy markers in the po files, which is not possible using plain properties files. My project is missing some important features right now, e.g. msginit, more configuration options (currently I assume UTF-8 properties files, which is not the default in vanilla Java, but possible using a special ResourceBundle.Control). I have about 5 different languages to translate to and I'm using a template. Half of the strings are already translated so what I did was replace the automatically created language files (de.properties) with the file which has 50% strings already translated. But when I do this everything seems to work fine, some strings which is supposed to be unchanged appear as untranslated. Example: I want the following strings to remain unchanged: general.english=English general.german=Deutsch general.japanese=日本語 general.french=Français general.russian=Русский general.spanish=Español But these strings appear "untranslated" whenever I need to rescan the files (de.properties), eventhough they have been translated again and again. Could someone help me with this.
