If you reverse-engineer to the proprietary specification of any PBX
manufacturer, you are likely to have to implement patented solutions
of that PBX manufacturer.  That means that you will:
(a) get the agreement of that PBX manufacturer
(b) will have to pay royalties to that manufacturer.

Generally speaking, you better have a good business case to propose to the
PBX manufacturer that shows how you can enhance the sales of that
manufacturers PBX by using your terminals.

This is a rough road ahead.
