Good morning Vibers!
This Saturday is the Cross cars!!! Please try your very best to come and
celebrate together! Thank you for coming out to serve on Saturday! I
realised later that night that it was probably the last time I will wear
yellow as part of vibe L But doesn't mean I won't still have a yellow
patch on my heart somewhere! You guys have been a lasting impression, I
won't forget anytime soon!
The word on Saturday was .... You know what, there are no words to
describe it actually. But first, I would like to thank Chief Nkosi for
the offering message. For those of you who were not there, she shared
her testimony on how she has had to endure some hard pressing
experiences such as not having ZESA power for three weeks because she
couldn't pay her bill. And then her water also went. And this wasn't a
long time ago, just last month. But in the midst of all of that, God
remained faithful and has opened a door for her to travel! In November
she went to South Africa for the first time in her life! And now, PRAISE
GOD, she has been sent to Brazil!!!! So our prayers are with Chief
Nkosie during her time away!
Chief Tsungi also made her first appearance on stage in a yellow VIBE
t-shirt! Well done Chief! You did great! We are blessed to have you in
our tribe!
Now onto the word... maiwe zvangu! This was a rhema word for me, coz I
had been feeling like there were so many things that I should have
accomplished by now that I hadn't especially career wise. And it's
really been a painful process. Beginning with my degree, I took four
years to complete my degree instead of three. The honors programme is a
one year programme, I didn't pass the first year, this year was my
second attempt and I didn't pass one out of four papers so I now have to
re-write all four papers again next year.. that is three years
attempting a one year programme. I felt the pain this year. But Pst
Lync's message really strengthened and empowered me to keep trying. When
I pass next year 2010, I can't begin to imagine the intensity of joy I
will feel, and when I finally qualify as a Chartered Accountant in 2011,
I know then I will really appreciate the process it's taken to get
there.
For the benefit of guys who didn't make it I will just extract a snippet
from notes I have borrowed from a friend who emailed me:
The title of the message was:
Thank you God for pain- Ps Lyncolin
I know it sounds a little confusing; at least I was confused at the
beginning, asking myself where we were going with this but I'm sure
after you hear the contents of the sermon you will indeed start to thank
God for pain.
He shared on these three verses first and referred to them also during
his sermon.
Psalm30:5
"...weeping may endure for a night but
joy comes in the morning"
1Peter5:10
"but may the God of grace who called us
to His eternal glory by
Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish,
strengthen, and settle you"
Genesis3:16
"...in pain you shall bring forth children"
He said I pray by the end of this service you will start appreciating
pain and not dreading it
He spoke on how he went to a funeral and he didn't know what to say to
console a friend in mourning, which to him is what triggered the
questions, asking God, Why painful things happen to good people?
He then sort out God as he went recluse, fasted, prayed and retreated
for a while that is when he came across a book by a gentleman by the
name Philip Yancy(Hope it's the right spelling), the book was dedicated
to those who had lost loved ones in the twin tower tragedy. The book is
entitled Where is God when it hurts?
The thing that is most confusing for those in mourning is the
contradictory advice that is given by people
God said it is good after creating everything but we always believe that
He made a mistake when he created PAIN. But it has its own mechanism and
purpose in our lives.
1. He gave the example of the knee jerk that the sharp pain
causes your knee to jerk thus preventing further pain. Therefore the
absence of pain could lead to greater pain (confusing? Stick with me it
gets foggy b4it gets clearer)
The first thing that caught me that he shared on was on how lepers are
often disfigured, so we believe the disease causes this but in fact the
disease just kills all your pain sensors and leaves you numb to pain,
therefore you don't feel it when your limbs are in danger, so accidents
happen the limbs come off. Therefore pain can act as an indicator of
imminent danger preventing you from hurting yourself and conserving you
whole
2. Second thing was in order for you to fully enjoy success, pain
must come first. Because often pain is a prerequisite for joy (e.g.
birth, fasting, toiling in a field etc). As is said in the verse "after
a while". Because the most intense of pain makes you appreciate joy when
it comes. He said (and this got me thinking) Now I know why I don't have
some things in my life yet, for I have yet to fully appreciate them. As
Joseph went through all forms of pain before the joy came. So pain is
before ecstasy. The point of fasting is to kill your flesh and it is
painful but the proceeds are bountiful.
3. Pain brings people together, as many as haven't seen each other
will come together to console one that has lost a loved one. Pastor
warned us that we should avoid living incubated lives where we then
become numb to pain therefore we don't feel for others, walking around
with no compassion and no empathy, with messed up attitudes but when we
have experienced similar situations it is easy to relate and feel for
others
He said stop backing away from situations and opportunities because of
the fear of pain because the greatest treasures in life are found after
pain. Therefore we all have things that we have been hoping for so pain
is an indication that we are on our way to the victory so let us not,
back away or be dismayed but let us not wait for the breakthrough to
rejoice but in the pain praise God
Another friend of mine sent me an email that was short yet so profound
and relevant. I want to share with you all and encourage you:
"Nothing about our faith makes us pain-proof. It does hurt, it does make
us cry. And we must dry our eyes and continue with the work until our
time is done.
May God teach you to remain true to Him and to the call on your life as
you persist in this season.
He who promised is faithful and able to do what He said he will do. Your
faith is working for you.
So guys be encouraged J. Meditate on the scriptures and the word from
Sunday. God's grace is more than enough for us and He will perfect,
establish, strengthen and settle us.
Love & blessings!
