I have been struggling to run the ESP tools on multiple platforms and to have various versions on the same machine.
I have outlined my solution on my blog <https://edgingtonlabs.wpcomstaging.com/docker-esp-idf/>. It requires the machine hosting the esp to have *esp_rfc2217_server.py <https://github.com/espressif/esptool/blob/master/esp_rfc2217_server.py>,* but it is a relatively small Python script compared to multiple docker images.
