The scripts are nifty, you may just want to open some sort of 
network/system monitoring service. I know Big Brother (http://bb4.com/) 
will let you know when things go wrong, as will mon 
(http://www.kernel.org/software/mon/).  Big Brother also gives you 
pretty pictures, while mon is mostly console, although I see there are 
web interfaces for it. I'm guessing OpenNMS (http://www.opennms.org) 
will too, but I haven't had any experience with it yet.  I'm playing 
with cacti (http://www.raxnet.net/products/cacti/) on my which just 
monitors and graphs, it does not alert.
