We just bought an Aberdeen 2TB server in December and experienced ecc errors on one of the drives. It took a while for someone from support to call us back , ~1week, to verify that is was nothing to worry about. IMHO, an error *is* something to worry about. Also, we have already had to replace the RAID card in it, not saying that is was Aberdeen's fault, but it was in their server. FWIW, if you have the money, I would certainly spend the money on one of the more known companies. We have experienced much better support from these companies. From my experience, if a drive fails in a Compaq server they just ask for the spare number or have a rep come out and fix it no questions asked. Most other vendors assume that a failed component is the customers fault. We have one vendor, that blames heat on our failed drives, I think we are up to 12 replacements in that machine, then when they send us the replacement drive they charge us $100 for shipping. Don't get me wrong, there are some good small companies out there, but finding them is the key. my $.02 --chris -- TriLUG mailing list : http://www.trilug.org/mailman/listinfo/trilug TriLUG Organizational FAQ : http://trilug.org/faq/ TriLUG Member Services FAQ : http://members.trilug.org/services_faq/ TriLUG PGP Keyring : http://trilug.org/~chrish/trilug.asc
