I am a highschool senior using a pentium 4 1.3 ghz computer. When i try to get my computer to do heavy computational tasks like some java programs for class the cpu overheats. I know this because the cpu heat sync is verry hot and is usually much cooler after normal operation. Is there any way to
A. moniter the cpu tempature with redhat linux 9
B. prevent the cpu from getting so hot in the first place
C. get a fan speed controll program for my computer

you've gotten good advice, but I would ask how you know the above? If you are leaving the case open to feel the cpu temp then that it itself will affect the airflow. You do have the mobo in a case, don't you?
