Dist-upgrade tries very, very hard to get as much of the latest stuff
on your system, using whatever amount of "grabbing other packages" or
"uninstall conflicting stuff" is necessary.

Just upgrade will put newer versions of things you've got installed
on, but if it finds something a little confusing, it'll just give up.

So in general, yeah, you want to do dist-upgrade, but during times of
great upheaval, a simple upgrade can sometimes keep you from getting
into trouble.
