Ooo, just for the posterity of this thread, I found a reasonably good
tool, from MySQL AB. It's called the mysql-query-browser. It provides
a reasonably straightforward interface, and most importantly allows
batching of "UPDATE"s in the form of editing a table of results, much as
one would manipulate a spreadsheet, which is exactly the sort of
function I was looking for.
Thanks for all input!

Once upon a time I used an app from mysql's site. I think it was
called mysqlcc or something like that. It had a very familiar "SQL
Enterprise manager" feel to it that was fairly easy to configure and
start working with. Plus it was a binary so no compiling necessary.
YMMV,

Hi Y'all,
I just did a google search for a MySQL GUI front-end (phpmyadmin is
awesome, but isn't great for editing lots of data at once in a nice
clean spreadsheet-esque tabular style), and turned up a lot more options
than I expected (though I dunno why I didn't expect lots of options!).
Anyway, while I go about trying a few of them, does anyone have any
suggestions of tools you've used and liked (or disliked)?
Cheers,
~Brian
