Something like this might help http://www.iskin.com/protouch/pb_features.html

Now my father-in-law is trying to drill out the only screw left -- one that's in the middle of it all, holding the keyboard and cover together -- he's been through one drill bit already and it still hasn't come apart.

Lisa,

If this is not too late, please do not drill - let's try something in different
direction. I know that most of the Thinkpad especially the T43 or later
are built on the Carbon Fiber plastics. That being said, you might like to try to see if it is possible to sold something like a bigger screw or a piece
of coper wire (stronger to manage with handle) on to the
current bother-some screw, then using the bigger screw to get it out, not
working on the embedded screw directly. The drill through may damage
the base of the screw but I wish the solder won't. You may do a test by
letting the solder touch somewhere on the same piece of the case to see
how long it may stand. Also, sometime just one or two quick touch may sold
something on the screw. If necessary, put some wet paper towel nearby
the sport to help. That works for me sometime.

Thanks,

Liyun
