I know I'm late to the conversation, but depending on your love or hate of databases.... You might want to look at DBMail (http://www.dbmail.org/) for intergration with Postfix. I've been using it for a long time now and all the user administration is in the database. So you can do replication and only have to backup one DB to get all the mail.
