Well it is probably not what you are asking but what I have is just a samba share on a ubuntu fileserver box. I have all the mp3 file and anything else my family wants to share. I guess that if you wanted http access you could also run an apache server.
I am curious as to what is to be gained from streaming the content as opposed to just sending the whole file. I guess it is clear that if you have audio files that are more than a few minutes long then the advantage is that you dont have to transfer many megabytes. But most of the mp3 files I have are just a few megs so I have not had any problem just opening the file over the samba share and playing it in the player of my choice. - Barry Gaskins On 10/29/06, Cristobal Palmer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
Howdy folks, I'm setting myself up a fileserver and slurping all my music onto it. I'd like to stream that audio (obviously I'd restrict the stream to my /24 to avoid lawsuits) so that I can tune into http://my.domain/some.tla with any computer in the house. What are people using to get this job done? ices2/icecast? Is that overkill? I'm interested in hearing a reply from people who have firsthand experience in setting up such a system OR have set up something different that you think would better suit my needs. I'm _very_ interested if what you describe exists as a debian or ubuntu package and can be set up in << 20min. Thanks in advance, CMP -- Cristobal M.
