tried
security = user in [global] ?

also,
writeable = yes in [frames]

just initial thoughts, I'm not a smb expert! :)

Hi Everyone,

I am having trouble setting up what should be a simple samba
setup. I am using samba version 3.0.22. Here is my smb.conf file:

#my home grown smb.conf file

[global]
    workgroup = XRAY
    security  = share

[frames]
    path = /smb/bragg2/frames
    read only = no
    guest account = bruker
    guest ok = yes
    guest only = yes
    browseable = yes
    create mask = 0644
    directory mask = 0755

What I want to have happen is to have a Windows PC write files to
a Linux box via samba, without any password authentication. In this
config file, I got an NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED error when I did any
operation which required a write to the Linux box's harddrive. The
only way I have been able to get this to work is give the
directory /smb/bragg2 (and all subdirectories) permissions of
777, which, although the machines are behind a firewall, is not
the preferred solution. There is a UNIX account on the Linux box
called 'bruker' and user 'bruker' owns the /smb/bragg2/frames
directories (and all those below).

My reading of the documentation indicated that having 'security = share'
and 'guest ok = yes' were sufficient to get anonymous writes to the
Linux drive.

Any help appreciated.  Thanks.

Paul
