I don't know when I started having this problem, but I'm having problems with fonts in X Window apps. I noticed it at least a few months ago, but I just didn't have time to look into it then. I use a lot of KDE apps, and they look fine, but all of the old apps written directly to Xlib look terrible.
I'm running Debian testing. I suspect (after magnifying the text with xmag) that fonts in programs like Xemacs are not anti-aliased. Any suggestions for how to start diagnosing, troubleshooting, and solving this type of issue?
