I have a script that autogenerates my signature every day using the output from the famous fortune program. This part seems to work properly. But when I used the Evolution mail client, it likes to strip off the endline characters and I have to go and fix it every time I send an e-mail. Evolution doesn't seem to have the ability to use a text file as your signature - it wants you to either type you signature into its own editor manually, or have it call a script the output of which will be used as the signature. My script writes a file, so I just wrote another script that cat's the file and I have Evolution calling that script - this is the point at which the endline characters get stripped. If I call my script from the shell, the endline characters seem to be there, so it this a bug with Evolution or what? Obviously, I could just use a different mail client, but I like to fix problems rather than run from them ;) Example messed up signature below:
