From what I've read/seen the new Serial/Parallel ATA drivers are the
intended replacement for the old ones - although from the looks of things the old ones are the safest bet for now.
It would seem to make sense to rationalize the storage drivers as the ATA/SCSI division and device naming (hdx vs. sdx) now seems somewhat arbitrary - e.g. USB Sticks end up with sdx devices - and really things are now /dev/disk/... anyway. David. On 2/6/07, Andrew Perrin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
I downloaded and was picking around the 2.6.20 kernel today, largely because I'd like support for k8temp, the hardware temperature monitor for AMD Athlon64 chips. There's a new section in the configuration titled: Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers This is distinct from the old ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support, which still exists as well. I can't find much online about this addition. Anybody know the background for the addition? Most importantly, should one use this, the older "ide" drivers, or both for PATA? Why?
