The "Epson Perfection 2400 Photo" works in Trisquel, at least basic scanning
(I have not tested scanning negatives). Which model is exactly your Xerox? I
am considering changing my HP printer. "Konika-Minolta PagePro 1400w" (laser)
also works perfectly under Trisquel. Has anyone experience with Brother.
Their drivers seems to be "open" (but not GPL apparently) and they are in
Ubuntu Multiverse repos. This is the copyright notice of the Debian package
in Ubuntu web page (I have been unable to find information about licensing or
source in Brother's web):

As for HP printers, a number of them are NOT supported by HPLIP from start
(no plugin either, obviously). The above list only includes those which need
a plugin to work.
