You could e.g. use a live cd (any distro will do, you only need to mount the
hard disk and use a text editor) to change the boot to show the grub menu and
to make sure the recovery options are included. (It might be there already,
don't remember the defaults...) Then boot and select a recovery option and
you will be the all powerful root. Now you can use the passwd [username] to
change the password of the username.
