If you can connect at all to your university LAN then its unlikely to be an
OS related restriction. It sounds like an authentication issue or
restriction. There's normally a few steps to connecting to these types of
network:
1) Connect to physical LAN using settings supplied.
2) Enter password and user name to connect to the network.
3) The network authenticates your credentials and allows you join the
network.
If you fail at the second step it usually means the network is preventing you
from connecting. I suggest you contact your IT services department to find
out why you're getting the error message.
