Using nonfree software is not unethical, but you victimize yourself by doing  
so. What would be unethical is to help you victimize yourself.

Why do you need better 3D acceleration, anyway? I'm able to use Nouveau on an  
old Nvidia card for playing games like Xonotic and Minetest with good  
graphics settings at the same time that GNOME Shell is running. The only work  
I can imagine that needs 3D is 3D graphics design or something similar, and  
it seems to me it would work fine with what Nouveau offers.
