@dudeski, Mate doesn't appear to be in the Trisquel repo (or did i miss it?).  
 I don't think suggesting an out-of-repo DE is a very good suggestion...

I'm NOT defending gnome3 in any way!  I wouldn't touch it with a 30 foot pole  
myself.
