Hope Trisquel 7 has this fixed.
After logging in, enter "top" in a console window. If it shows lxdm using
most of the CPU time, the problem is in crypto of home directory. Workaround
is to first login to a console session, than login to X session: i.e., from
initial screen enter ctrl-alt-f1; enter username; enter password; enter
alt-f7; enter username; enter password; then try "top" again, it should show
negligible CPU usage.
