I'm not sure (sorry), as far as I know, though, no. That'd mean that your GPU's doing nothing (or not doing everything it is capable of), though (I think). To be honest my post was a wee bit of a guess (hence the question mark).

All I can say is that it's best to reinstall the package, then remove it, then reboot.

If anything goes wrong (and i.e. X wouldn't start), go to the command prompt and do a 'sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-nouveau' and if the Internet isn't working you wouldn't need the Internet anyway.
