I guess that what happens is that usually connecting the printer to the  
computer would install the printer automatically so there is no need for a  
"add printer", unless you want to install a network printer, in that case you  
will have to also do that is described in the bug report which is to install  
the smbclient package too.

sudo apt-get install smbclient
