As I already wrote: there is no security when the attacker has a physical access to the hardware. He can read the disk in a variety of ways... as long as the data are unencrypted. Automatic login and an absence of locking after inactivity make no difference for a remote attack. As a consequence, they do not really weaken the security.

They are psychological incentives for your co-workers or your family not to look at your data/activities when you are AFK (a little more effort is required: burning a live system on a USB drive for instance).
