By the way, I should note that "Trisquel" is not the normal GNOME desktop, but rather GNOME Flashback. The normal GNOME desktop can be used by installing the gnome-session and gnome-shell packages.

(I don't know whether or not you would like GNOME Shell as much as Unity, but I just wanted to point this out. It may be something to try, at any rate.)
