Hi! Youtube now uses HTML5 so you don't really need gnash to view your vids  
but that still needs javascript activated if I understand it correctly. This

I like minitube and quite recently even more SMPlayer with SMTube.
Try it - with those applications you watch and download vids from YT without  
the use of a browser which results in increased performance..
