Steam is proprietary software. Whose "raison d'être" is to impose  
restrictions (DRMs) onto the user.

The Winfast DVR3200H requires a proprietary firmware. More generally, if old  
hardware does not work with a recent Linux-libre kernel, then it probably  
cannot work with free software.
