SuperTramp83 suggested that I see the the proverbial psychiatrist about a  
problem that appears to be mine alone, so I can let my system keep on doing  
the double-password thing without having it get under my skin. He's right !

In the meantime I'm gradually stashing my important data in safe places ...  
when that's accomplished, I'll probably _really_ not care much about the  
double passwords any more. After all, it's just the authorization of wlan0.
