Of the 6 times I used Unetbootin when I was very fresh with GNU it failed to  
do the job 4 times.. Horrible application.
dd is all you need and learning or not even learning the dd if of thing but  
pasting it in the terminal is something a "newb" can certainly do. Of the 20  
times I used dd with several hardware and software it failed 0 (zero) times.
