It depends what it's used for. If it is just for backups of Trisquel, such as  
full disk images, you could just go for ext4. If it's for carrying around  
files e.g. documents and presentations then go for FAT or NTFS. FAT has 4GoB  
limit though, so keep that in mind. Also NTFS has dubious patents surrounding  
it. For a small external drive (less than 32 Gob) I would go for FAT.
