Ok the problem has emerged again and deleting the .config/libreoffice folder  
didn't work. Following those commands, I get this bizarre occurrence:

tri@tri:~$ sudo apt-get purge libreoffice && sudo apt-get autoremove && sudo  
apt-get install libreoffice
[sudo] password for tri:
Reading package lists... Done
tri@tri:~$ pendency tree... 0%
(the positioning of the response of the commands is not a copy+paste mistake  
- they are broken up by new instances in the terminal)
