How? You must have done this on another operating system. So just be careful  
and don't attempt to back up this way (I assume you are making a full disk  
image?), and use the normal backup utility.
Try TestDisk to recover them. It will take a long time depending on the size  
of the disk and partition.
You could also try reinstalling, selecting the original partition layout  
exactly (assuming that the partition layout did not get destroyed) and  
selecting the home directory with the same encrypted password.
Either way, you must have learnt your lesson: make frequent offline backups  
and be very careful when using the dd command.
