Short answer is 5GHz is faster but has shorter range.
2.4GHz can reach farther and it's older so there's more devices out there that support 2.4GHz than 5GHz. The fact that there's more devices using 2.4GHz also mean that this frequency has more noise. Which could derive in bad signal
