I don't see what's wrong with asking if a baby is a boy or a girl.
However, toys should not be gendered. Lego for example is sometimes seen as a boys toy but it has always been advertised for both boys and girls (although they have had various "girly" ranges in recent years). Gendering toys is wrong because mostly it's sexist: it has been shown that girls get body image issues from an early age due to Disney Princess "girly" pink range.
In reality, gender is mostly a social construction.
