There is an IRC channel for libre gaming at #lgn. My nine year old does not play proprietary games despite the heavy peer pressure in this age group and has done his own share of outreach.
Do not underestimate gamers.
This is actually happening right now. I'm too old to keep up with the gaming
world but still young enough to have a kid who does.
