For booting GNU+Linux, you don't even need BIOS/UEFI. GRUB boots the linux  
kernel directly.

For other OS e.g. BSD, ReactOS(not yet supported) you would need BIOS  
services. The free "SeaBIOS" payload provides this. The next version of  
Libreboot will have a substantially improved "SeaGRUB" implementation as  
previously described.
