In my experience, there is no such thing as the fastest distribution, rather  
a minimal net install of any gnuxino with as few crap installed as possible,  
a decent DE or window manager..
It's all gahnuu and it's all fast but you need to set it right. Using  
lightweight software is really what makes all the difference in the world..
