Trisquel is a long-term support (LTS) distro, which means that when a new version of a program is available, Trisquel will stick with the current version until the next version of Trisquel is released. GuixSD is a rolling distro, meaning that it always has the latest version of every package. If you require a later version of a package than what is included in Trisquel 8, you can use the Guix package manager to install it.
