I wrote https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/installing-gnome-shell for GNOME Shell.  
Unfortunately, the other manuals in the "VII. Home and office -> Graphic User  
Interfaces (GUIs) -> Installing/Unistalling Desktops" section of  
https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/all-manuals have not been updated for Trisquel  
8. Adding/updating the manual for the desktop environment you try would help  
users attempting the same in the future.  But, no, there should not be any  
"compatibility" problem.
