When you mentioned drastic measures I came to think of the caning I got
(colloquially known as "six of the best") when I was evacuated to a
boarding school at the age of 9 or 10 or of the way North Korea goes
about things!
My dictionary says for drastic "acting with force or violence; extreme;
vigourous:", so it's a good job we got that one sorted out.
Yes: Hubbard worked really hard at it. I think that, possibly, he also
got into or allowed what I call drastic measures, such as disconnection
and the worst forms of RPF. I think, and that is what you experienced,
that when he was doing individual auditing he was at his best. I've also
experienced him in the fifties doing group auditing (to a Congress) and
there also he was in good form.
The question of appropriate gradients, which requires a very good
perception of the other person's reality, is a very important factor.
It is possible (at any rate from my point of view) that he set himself
too big a goal (if it was him that set the goal of "to clear the
world"). Clear the world seems to me an attempt to be total cause and to
dominate totally; other people's self determinism doesn't matter!
So one of his gems, which as he said is easily forgotten because it's so
simple, is the effect scale.

discreate its archived postulates - which is what auditors were
meticulously trained for.
I didn't want you or anyone else to get hung up on the phrase "drastic
measures" and leave it to the mind's interpretation, and it was
probably not the best choice of words to impart to Modern English
readers the exact meaning of the original text language. "Drastic
undercuts" might work better. It does not mean rudely breaking
someone's dramatization.
Dennis' undercuts are succinct, and even they might need an undercut
for certain beings, such as CCH's, or Life Repair with a separate
therapist.
I don't think there is any auditor or therapist (including Ron) who
has not sometimes beaten his figurative head against the figurative
wall when working with a being with a very complicated mind. I've
certainly given a couple of auditors a run for their money, and I
thank them for their patience and compassion.
Hubbard spoke truth when he said any case could be resolved if entered
on the correct gradient, and Hubbard's scales are helpful gradients.
