Unhappiness is deciding that you lack something. Deciding that you lack
something is the first step in acquiring what you want. This is a function that
we all do all the time as the first step in playing games. It is important that
you recognize that you do this all the time and that you can take control of
"deciding that you lack something" so you do not go around miserable all the
time and fail to recognize that you are causing your unhappiness to motivate
yourself to play games which allow you to acquire the sensations or stuff you
feel you lack.

Hubbard recognized this with the CDEI scale. First you are curious then you
desire it. After a time you must force yourself to continue doing it then you
decide you don't want it anymore and inhibit yourself from getting it.

By the way, Hubbards scale is incomplete. The full scale is circular and goes
like this

Curious
Desire
Enforce
Inhibit
Substitute

With the addition of "substitute" you have the postulate failure cycle of
Dennis's games
Must be known
Must not be known
Must know
Must not know
Substitute a new game

With the understanding that we play games to generate sensations that at first
we desire (Curious, Desire) then we do not desire (Enforce, Inhibit) and
finally we must substitute a new game as the no game condition is boring.

UNHAPPY
Happiness is not necessarily dependent upon outside happenings. You can make
it dependent upon outside happenings if you choose to do so. Some people choose
to do so without being aware that they are making that choice.

1. Think of something that you choose to like or look at something that you
could choose to like. It may be a colour, a shape, an object, an emptiness or a
fullness of something; anything that pleases you.

2. Now, with your attention on what you have chosen, feel what it would feel
like to be happy.

When you are focusing on the things that you do not want or when you are
focusing on what you do not have you find it difficult to create the feeling of
happiness.

So your unhappiness can be changed by changing that upon which you are focusing
and by creating the feeling that you know is happiness. Your problem is not
unhappiness it is the problem of making your life as you choose it to be. Your
life can be as you consciously choose when you remove the limiting beliefs
which are affecting your choices from the subconscious.
